Boston Red Sox lose in the World Series.

October 22, 1975

The Red Sox lose to the Reds 4-3 at Fenway Park in game 7, on a ninth-inning, two-out, two-strike hit by the Reds’ Joe Morgan in what comes to be called the Greatest World Series Ever Played. Boston won game 1 on a five-hit shutout by Luis Tiant and game 5 on Tiant’s 163-pitch complete game. The Red Sox had beaten the Reds 7-6 in Game 6 at Fenway Park on a 12th-inning home run by Carlton Fisk on October 21, 1975. Earlier in the game, Bernie Carbo tied the score on a pinch-hit, three-run homer in the eighth inning and Dwight Evans made a game-saving catch that led to a double play in the 11th inning to extend the game.
